Tell the story about what this nominated entrepreneur has achieved since January 1 2017 (up to 650 words). Describe the impact he or she has had on your organization. Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms.
It’s been an exciting year of growth at Select Management Group. In the past twelve months, we’ve doubled our employee headcount, exceeded company revenue projections, launched new revenue streams and received critic and audience acclaim for original projects and productions.
Owned by entrepreneurs Scott Fisher and Adam Wescott, Selectisthe leading independent management company representing top digital talent with massive online audiences. Focused on working with a core roster of talent,long-time clients includes Gorgeous, MyLifeAsEva, Tess Christine, and LaurDIY. The company’s entertainment arm, SelectNext, develops original, owned-and-operated business ventures and productions.
In 2017, the company expanded its roster of top digital talent. As confirmed by YouTube, the company now represents more top YouTube Creators than any other talent agency or management firm. In addition to growing the careers of existing clients, the company began working with Sylvia Gani, Jessica Vill, Nikita Dragun and more.
Select secured many seven figure endorsement deals including MyLifeAsEva and LaurDIY for Coca-Cola’s Fanta, Gigi Gorgeous for Revlon, and LaurDIY for Mudd. Such deals led to an overall 33% growth in revenue year over year.
Additionally, the company proved successful in converting their talent’s digital audience to sales with a range of product collaborations, licensing deals and original merchandise. In Spring 2017, makeup guru Casey Holmes debuted an original spotlight highlighter palette for Smashbox Cosmetics. The online sales sold out in just 48 hours and Smashbox quickly expanded to selling in-stores including Sephora, JC Penny as well as a stint on QVC.
Select was a premiere sponsor of VidCon 2018 hosting a talent lounge with photos by celebrity photographer Luke Fontana. The company also played an active role in the digital ad industry annual NewFronts event in NYC including a presence in ad presentations for YouTube, Refinery29, StyleHaul, Fullscreen and more.
SelectNext produced its first feature-length film “This is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous” directed by two-time Academy Award® winner Barbara Kopple which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, also headlined more domestic and international festivals as well as a limited theatrical run and SVOD release on YouTube Red. The film won “Best Feature” at the 2017 Streamy Awards, was honored for Most Compelling Subject” at the 2017 Critics Choice Documentary Awards and was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2017 MTV Movie Awards. The film was called “a big deal” by Forbes Magazine and the Village Voice called it “an intimate and engaging exploration of gender Dynamics and the curios, uniquely 21st-century alchemy of YouTube Stardom”.
The New York Times actually called for more screen time of Select and its founders, saying “Adam Wescott and Scott Fisher, Ms. Lazzarato’s management team, are executive producers for the film, and to a great extent “This Is Everything” seems to follow an agenda set by them in tandem with the movie’s subject, which is largely commendable in its pitch for acceptance and against bigotry. Still, I wish there were more behind-the-scenes material showing those managers trying to oversee the Gigi Gorgeous brand.”
Additionally, the company developed, sold and produced a six-episode order of the half hour comedy “Me and My Grandma” starring MyLifeAsEva and TV legend Rhea Perlman that premiered on YouTube Red in 2017.
We’ve identified a diverse group of people, including a strong female executive and support staff, who work tirelessly for the company’s clients and prosperity. Together we’ve volunteered quarterly to give back by building houses for those in-need, packing food donations, and organizing baby supplies. The company has donated time, money and support to the fight for LGBTQ equality working closely with the HRC, LA LGBT Center, It Gets Better and Children’s Hospital of LA Transyouth Program for which Select raised over $25K dollars during a Halloween event hosted by Gigi Gorgeous.
