Securus is a diversified, government services, high-tech, high software content business focused on providing technology based solutions to the US corrections market. Our customers are inmates, their friends, their families, correctional officers, and law enforcement officers.
When Robert Pickens was hired by Securus as President 9 years ago he embarked on fundamentally transforming the business from a mid-sized provider of inmate telephone services to a one stop shop for all Law Enforcement and Corrections department technology needs. At the time Securus was struggling and in danger of going out of business. Today Securus is number one in the US Inmate Telecom Solutions market by revenue, serves 3,450 correctional facilities across all 50 states, serves over 1,200,000 inmates and over 30,000,000 family members and friends. Securus has also diversified with 21 acquisitions into the provider of the broadest suite of diversified technology solutions for law enforcement and corrections. Securus offers Jail Management Software, Wireless Containment Solutions, Data Analytics, Parolee Monitoring, Money Transfer, Video Visitation, and many other services. This is all attributable to Robert’s leadership and his vision to help make the community safer by assisting law enforcement.
Growing the business is the job of any President. What makes Robert standout is his passion for serving the community and doing the right thing by his customers. In 2016 Securus participated in several initiatives all around giving back.
United Way - From the community side the best example is United Way. As the President of Securus he feels that it is his duty to do whathe can to help people in need. To this end Securus encourages all associates to contribute annually. He meets with every supervisory employee to explain why it is so important to give to United Way. He has United Way come on-site and give examples of what the money will be used for. It’s not just the employee’s that give, he incentivizes associates; the company offers extra vacation days, has prizes, sponsors breakfasts/lunches where the United Way's mission is discussed, longer breaks and lunch hours – all designed to create an interest in what they do. In 2016 Securus associates donated $437,467 to United Way.

LA Floods – In August 2016 Louisiana experienced devastating flooding. For a week in September Securus allowed Louisiana Department of Corrections inmates to place free calls to their loved ones to help reduce their anxiety and stress and made a $50,000 donation to their inmate welfare fund.
Correctional Officer Memorial Fund – Securus launched the only Correctional Officer Memorial Fund in 2013. This fund provides financial assistance to grieving families of correctional officers who have fallen in the line of duty. Securus has been able to help eleven families in their time of need because of this fund, six since 2016.
Pre and Post Release Programs - In the last five (5) years, Securus Technologies has invested over $200 million in products, education, media, communications, jobs, and post release programs that directly improve the lives of inmates and friends/family members. We hope that by helping inmates reenter society in a meaningful and productive way we can also help lower recidivism.
