PJ Lhuillier president & CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier continues to redefine microfinance in the Philippines through ground breaking innovations that highlights Cebuana Lhuillier’s reputation as an industry game-changer. From a single pawnshop branch established thirty years ago, Cebuana Lhuillier went on to become the leading pawnshop brand in the Philippines; before fully cementing its reputation as the leading microfinancial services provider in the Philippines. Cebuana Lhuillier offers collateralized and non-collateralized loans, microinsurance, remittance services and even B2B services to more than 25M Filipinos worldwide.

In celebration of its truly remarkable 30 years, a nationwide celebration of gratitude, recognition and pride was spearheaded by Mr. Lhuillier, through the ‘Thank you for 30!’ concert series—in Manila, Cebu, and Davao, Philippines. During each leg, thousands of clients all over the country were treated to performances by some of the Philippines’ sought-after artists, including the company’s very own brand ambassadors Sarah Geronimo and Alden Richards.

Mr. Lhuillier also led the company into acquiring and serving more than 25 million clients. Out of those 25 million, Cebuana Lhuillier now has close to 9.5 million loyal 24k card holders.

To address the ever-evolving needs of its clients, Mr. Lhuillier continuously introduced new products and business innovations. In 2017, he led the launch of Cebuana Lhuillier’s microloans portfolio. This milestone completes the evolution of Cebuana Lhuillier into a micro-financial institution, and also made the company the largest lending network in the Philippines.

To give more Filipinos access to financial solutions, Mr. Lhuillier led the expansion of the company by establishing outlets across and beyond the country. Through his efforts, Cebuana Lhuillier now has close to 2,400 branches nationwide. This year, Mr. Lhuillier also further strengthened the company’s network of Pera Padala (money remittance) partners through the Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala Authorized Agents (CLPPA) project, making domestic remittance available in more than 4,000 outlets nationwide.

To ensure that every Filipino will have access to microfinancial services no matter where in the Philippines they maybe, Mr. Lhuillier championed the “Oplan Suyod” campaign which allowed Cebuana Lhuillier to reach out to even more Filipinos in communities that has limited access to micro-financial services by partnering with small establishments which would become Cebuana Lhuillier Remittance Agents.

Added to the triumphs gained by the company through Mr. Lhuillier’s exemplary leadership, he also spearheaded the company’s advancement through the integration of the Application Programming Interface or API. Through the API, reliable money transferred is assured anywhere in the world, also, customer access is improved for all clients giving them easy access to any of Cebuana Lhuillier’s 2,200 branches. Lastly, through API system integration, the mirror technology provides seamless connectivity for its clients to make transactions anywhere, in real time and all the time.

Beyond the company’s products and services, Mr. Lhuillier also strived to make a difference in the live of Filipinos through his advocacies. Through the Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc., the company’s corporate social responsibility arm, Mr. Lhuillier was able to open more Alternative Learning System centers in the country, raising the total to 73, and benefitting more than 6,500 learners. He also initiated the offering of financial literacy crash courses in more than 525 communities nationwide.

He is also firmly committed in the promotion of disaster resilience, spearheading the company’s very own disaster response team called Cebuana RAPIDO during the 2017 Ready Disaster Resilience Forum. So far, Cebuana RAPIDO has extended help to 50 families, 1,500 evacuees, and thousands more in major missions in Iligan, Surigao, and in war-torn Marawi in Southern Philippines.

-Named the Interim Chairman of the Mutual Exchange Forum on Inclusive Insurance (MEFIN), a peer network of insurance regulatory authorizes in Asia.

-Winner of up t0 20 local and 60 international citations from different organizations, including the IBA, Golden Bridge Awards, Best Business Awards, Anvil Awards, and Philippine Quill Awards, among others.

-In 2017, led the insurance-arm and information technology-arm of the company to get ISO certification, while Customer Service Institute of America has once again, granted Cebuana Lhuillier the coveted Gold Certification.
