Nomination Title: Petrokimia Gresik Innovation Convention: "Innovation is Our Tradition"

The date on which this nominated production was presented:  The 31st PT Petrokimia Gresik (PG) Innovation Convention was held on 12-13 April, 2017. Employees have the opportunity to form Innovation Task Forces (ITFs) and participate in the Convention to share knowledge and innovation. In 2017, the number of ITF participation increased from 1,003 ITFs to 1,011 ITFs and resulted in 278.88 billion rupiah (equivalent to 20.66 million US dollar) of cost efficiency. The Convention also attracted 1,928 ideas from employees (an increase of 84% from 1,047 ideas contributed in previous year). Last year the Convention won the Gold Stevie Award for Innovation in Internal (Corporate) Events in Asia Pacific.

Describe the nominated event's communications objectives and how it met those objectives, including the event's genesis, development, performance, and results to date (up to 525 words):

CONCEPT:

The 31st Innovation Convention was held for two days in PG indoor stadium. With the theme “Innovation is Our Tradition”, all Top 3 nominees in every category were given the honour to showcase their innovations in front of all employees and the Board of Directors. In the past, only limited amount of employees can come to the Convention. The event, served as a medium to motivate innovative thinking amongst employees, was also used to promote PG and subsidiaries products and achievements to Government officials, business partners, and other stakeholders.

PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT:

The planning of the event and judging process for ITFs started from January 2017. The event organizer (EO) was consists of employees from every Department in the company. It was decided that to promote PG and its subsidiaries, all subsidiaries and Department in PG each provided with a booth stand (Expo) to exhibit achievements and gain recognition. Every booth was given the opportunity to be unique and entertaining, preventing the atmosphere of the Convention to be too casual (as it always was). By the end of the Convention, the EO decided the Best Booth Stand and announced the Favourite Booth Stand by visitors’ choice. The EO also designed the Layout of the Convention and the Showcase Stage, while all properties were provided by the General Service Department of PG.

PROMOTION:

We invited our shareholders, business partners, and other stakeholders throughout East Java Province. We also promoted the event through printed media, corporate website, and social media platforms such as Facebook (Petrokimia Gresik Official), YouTube (Petrokimia Gresik), Twitter (@petrogresik), and Instagram (petrokimiagresik_official) for the public to see.

EXECUTION:

The Convention started with the Board of Directors visiting Booth Stands before watching ITF performances. In total, there were 123 ITFs showcases in the Convention. Judging Panel was consists of 184 middle-level management employees from every Department. All participants did their best in presenting and even showed up in costumes ranging from Power Rangers to Government officials. It was almost like in a Comic Con event. After all Top 3 ITFs and winners of Booth Stand (Expo) competition were awarded, the Judging Panel also announced the ‘Employee with Most Involvement in Innovation Activity’ award.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

From this event, employees are highly motivated to make more innovation in the future. All of their innovations resulted in PG high performances and external recognition including:

- 36 awards from the 2018 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards including Innovative Management in Manufacturing Industries, Innovation in Consumer Products & Services, and Innovation in Product Placement;
- 24 awards from the 2017 International Business Awards including People’s Choice Award for Most Favourite Company, Executive of the Year Award, and Grand Stevie Winner (Top 10);
- 30 awards from the 2017 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards including Innovative Management in Manufacturing Industries, Innovation in Technology Management, Planning & Implementation, Innovation in Industrial Design, and Most Innovative Communications Team of the Year;
- LIPI Science Based Industry Innovation Award 2017.

The Convention also promoted PG latest product innovation such as Petro Gladiator, Petro CAS, NPK Cassava, Petroganik Premium, and NPK Phonska Plus.
