Nomination Title: Adeem Younis, Entrepreneur of the Year

Tell the story about what this nominated entrepreneur has achieved since January 1 2017 (up to 650 words). Describe the impact he or she has had on your organization. Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms.

Founder of multi-award-winning matchmaking platform, SingleMuslim.com and international humanitarian charity, Penny Appeal, Adeem Younis is an entrepreneur and philanthropist leading the way.

Born and bred in Wakefield, Adeem was imbued with a deep sense of responsibility after losing his father at a young age. Funding his studies by founding his first business, aged just 17, above a pizza shop in Wakefield, it didn’t take too long for Adeem to be appointed as an official expert for Business-Link West Yorkshire. This experience afforded Adeem a unique insight into what makes a business successful and inspired him to set up SingleMuslim.com, a digital matrimonial platform that would become the world’s largest Muslim matchmaking platform.

When few even understood the potential of the digital space and the internet, Adeem grew his company from scratch without seeking support from big business or investors. SingleMuslim.com has seen off competition from Silicon Valley and beyond and now boasts an 8-figure sum valuation. Today SingleMuslim.com has over 2 million members and has helped over 100,000 people find their life-partners.

In 2009 Adeem founded Penny Appeal, a charitable foundation whose vision is to transform small change into a big difference, seeking to provide aid to poor and needy people in over 30 crisis-hit countries worldwide as well as providing emergency and long-term sustainable development in the UK.

With countless number of partners, from the Mayor of London to Olympic medallists, over 200 staff in the UK and with the support of over 3000 volunteers Penny Appeal build wells, care for orphans, deliver urgent medical aid and healthcare, provide nutritious meals, open schools, orphanages and places of worship, care for the elderly and much more.

The double-Guinness-world-record holding charity raised just over £100,000 in 2012 and now in 2018, owing to Adeem’s leadership and mastery of the digital space, Penny Appeal is close to raising £25 million this year alone. Adeem has also pioneered sustainable domestic relief programmes, insisting charity must begin at home; amongst the work underway here in the UK we have feeding programmes for the hungry and homeless, refugee support work, domestic violence counselling and a fostering and adoption agency.

Founder and chairman Adeem Younis often says “Team work makes the dream work” and it’s this team that have led our phenomenal growth this past year, which includes:

The team make up some of the best in the industry and their work has been recognised in the communities they work with up to the level of heads of state.
