The excellence of Ooredoo Kuwait’s communications department is clearly demonstrated by the positive relationship it enjoys with the company’s C-Suite. Its efforts to innovate and positively manage the company’s reputation and image through different functions are well respected at the highest level and as a result the team is always on the front-line and closely involved in any external or internal initiative the company is rolling out or responding to.
The team’s responsibilities go beyond media relations and static marketing functions. It’s work supports the business in achieving strategic and corporate objectives. To share a few examples of key successes the department achieved in 2017:
-Hosted the country’s first Internet of Things (IoT) conference and Expo in collaboration with the Ministerial Council’s Central Agency of Information Technology and IoT Asia. Reiterating its leading position as a supporter of telecommunication technology, it used the platform of the event to pledge its support toward creating Smart city initiatives, in line with the Kuwait government’s vision, and its intent to launch smart home solutions. Ooredoo’s smart home solutions will include a range of innovative products supported by Android.
-Launched a fully-equipped state-of-the-art business data-center by FASTtelco, an internet-service-provider owned by Ooredoo Kuwait. This demonstrated Ooredoo’s commitment to being one of the leading companies in information technology solutions, and the company-of-choice for prospective clients searching for ICT solutions, catering especially for the needs of corporates and businesses.
-Led the company’s IPhoneX launch event. The event was attended by thousands of people including major social media influencers, Apple company representatives, customers, employees and Ooredoo officials. In just 12 hours, Ooredoo Kuwait sold more devices than average sales per day for the entire country. 250 staff participated in launching the device (almost 50% of the company). Coverage of the event had a reach of 93.5% and 2,478,000 impressions over 8 insertions. The team designed a special filter for this occasion on Snapchat in addition to the company logo and it was used heavily by those present and customers who were on site.
-In line with the company’s promise to support SMEs and entrepreneurs, led partnership with Association for Small and Medium Enterprises of Kuwait (ASMEK) to hold the B2B 4 SME Symposium. The event featured key speakers and open discussions about the obstacles and challenges facing small and medium enterprise owners. With a wide range of services and solutions specifically catering to the needs of entrepreneurs, Ooredoo took its support to another level by partnering to launch this event and provide an active platform for youth to express the challenges they face.
-As part of its social responsibility initiatives, the department further invested in its award-winning annual volunteer program that continued to attract hundreds of participants, preparing them with the right set of skills and tools before matching them with volunteering opportunities. Ooredoo also sponsored for the second consecutive year the Arab Youth Volunteer Award, which attracts hundreds of young people from around the Arab World to submit their youth initiatives and volunteer achievements and ideas.
-Aligning with the company’s core values, held several key events around the year to connect with and ensure wellbeing of staff. Events included the annual Ghabqa, a traditional Ramadan banquet where staff could socialize and celebrate the Ramadan spirit, the annual town hall meeting where executive management discussed key achievements, challenges and goals with the staff.
