GENESIS:

Meralco is the Philippines’ largest electric distribution utility. It serves 6M customers, composed of three segments: Residential, SMEs and Enterprise.

Because of its 115 years of experience, Meralco has grown to know its customers better and is in the unique position to provide them with vertically integrated energy solutions. This is particularly beneficial and important for its business and enterprise customers.

The Power Ideas program was created for the purpose of creating awareness on Meralco’s seamless energy solutions for its business customers. These solutions are presented to customers in forums, one-on-one meetings and industry events. The Power Ideas eVehicle Talk & Tour is one of the many customer engagements arranged, but this was the first exclusive customer event organized primarily for an EV customer, specifically De La Salle University (DLSU).

DLSU is one of the top college universities in the Philippines with a mission and vision to be a learner-centered research university attuned to a sustainable earth.

Through the years, Meralco strives to be the customers partner in progress, both in nation-building and in enhancing the customer’s global and local competitiveness.

DEVELOPMENT:

In August 2017, the marketing and sales team handling enterprise customers of Meralco strategized on developing an exclusive technology tour for its target customer, De La Salle University. A private customer tour was organized to showcase the energy expertise of Meralco with a focus on eVehicle technology that the university needed. The relationship manager handling this account was keen on his customers need for a shuttle service which will ferry their students and employees within the campus and to nearby bus stops.

What made this event special was its wholistic focus on delivering a completeeVehicle experience to the customer. The Power Ideas Talk & Tour was held at Meralco’s Power Lab where energy and appliance tests are conducted. It also housed the pilot eVehicle charging station of Meralco.

In this 2-hour meeting, the customer was able to experience the entire eVehicle ecosystem solution which they can replicatein their campus. These was done through an orchestrated customer EVjourney:

1.Know - Learn about the EV technologyvia a product presentation
2. See - View actual EVs(Tesla, Shuttles, Bicycles or Trikes) and charging pods
3. Ask - Speak to Meralco's product team and engineers
4. Ride - Experience an EV shuttle ride

GOAL:

The Power Ideas Talk & Tour for De la Salle University, was an exclusive event for several campuses of the university. It’s primarily goal was to showcase a successful EV ecosystem implementation to fully convince the university to shift from gas–fueled shuttles to eVehicles.

RESULTS:

Meralco closed the deal with De La Salle University Laguna for Three (3) Leased to own eVehicles with and Operations and Managed Services for three years.

Besides the environmental benefits, which is part of the school's mission and vision to be a learner-centered research university attuned to a sustainable earth, the school officials noted savings.
