Mapo-gu has served as a transport hub for the country’s capital for many centuries. Until some time ago, it provided ferry service in Maponaru and Seogangnaru. Today, the district is easily accessible from any point through land transport including the direct subway service from both Incheon International Airport and Gimpo Airport.

Culturally, Mapo-gu is famous for Hongdae Street and World Cup Stadium, which are always full of youthful energy and vitality. It holds various cultural festivals such as the Salted Shrimp Festival, Maponaru Festival and Fringe Festival, which help Mapo-gu maintain a unique local culture cherishing both traditions and challenges.

Mapo-gu has produced the “Mapo Tourism Video,” which features the district’s unrivaled tourism resources for purposes of raising public awareness of its tourism assets and contributing to the revitalization of tourism.

The video targets international tourists in their 20s and 30s. The video storyline is centered on the feelings and events experienced by “Melissa” in Mapo during her last birthday in her twenties. She shares them instantly with her friends on social media. Composed of three themes of Exploration, Healing, and Passion, the video presents the diverse tourist attractions of Mapo-gu in the form of sentimental yet powerful images.
