Nomination Title: Briana Waldeck, Innovation Officer

Tell the story about what this nominated executive has achieved since 1 January 2017 (up to 650 words). Describe the impact he or she has had on your organization. Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms.

Briana Waldeck (Bri) came to work for ourcompany, Manatee Holdings Ltd., from a background as a Paramedic and member of the Whitewater Ski Resort Rescue Team. This previous work helped prepare her psychologically and physically for the work she took on within our company. After extensive training on commercial SCUBA and HOOKAHshe went toworkasan underwater diverin both our fishing company and ouraquaculture company.

In the wildfisheries, divershuntdown and harvestexotic speciessuch as sea cucumber and urchins. They operate allalongthe coastline of British Columbia, and often workin extremely islolated wilderness areas, such as in Haida Gwaii, where Briis at present.

Right now she is the ONLY female diver working in thesedive fisheries on the West Coast of Canada.

This type of work demands a highly trained, experienced, warrior mentality, well grounded in the reality of her immediate surroundings, just to survive, let alone to do well. For example, she just radioed us yesterday from the grounds to tell us she had just finished her last dive of the dayless than 500 feet from a pod of killer whales who were engagedin a feeding frenzy killing one of thesea lions from the raft that she had been interacting with under thewater justthe day before. She wondered if she knew the sea lionbeen killed. Interacting with sea lions in such wild conditions require a well focussed, relaxed alertness as these animalsare capable of breaking bones just playing with you.

During the off season Bri also works on our underwater ranch. We have a subtidal tenure about the size of40 city blocks on which we are spearheading a new form of food production into existence aquaculturinganexotic clam known as the geoduck. The waywe are doing this has never been done anywhere in the world before.

Basically, she goes to work on this tenure every day in the same manner that afarmer would go out onto his fields. The only difference is that she spends the day under the water. Because what we are doing has never been done before, this work requires that adiver brings to the joba unique mindset. The work requires that the diver constantly is thinking of better ways to plant and protect the animals as they grow from seed to adult. Itrequires her to become acutely aware of all the predators trying to outwit herattempts to keep theclam seed alive. And to deal with massive ocean forces such as tidal and storm surge trying to destroy her protective efforts. Andherin the process. It requires serious team work capability, along side ofthe courage and capacity to sometimes face the challengesallalone.

This past summer, before the fishing season started, she headed up our field research team on the tenure investigating a multitude of factors impacting upon the rate of survival of our seed;and, the profitablilty of our company's bottom line.In the process of doing that shehascreated a whole new sense of camaderie onour dive boats as ouronly female diver.

She also works atour land based shellfish hatchery learning that aspect of our business from the ground up whenever bad weather drives her away fromthe ocean.

And she is working with her stepmother, Lourdes, who is ourCFOhelping to keep the companies financiallyabove the water.

We have we never met anyone in our business who has combined such an array of talent, brains, and character to accomplish what she is doing on behalf of our companies. As the CEOIcouldn't be happier with her performance. And Ican' t think of anyone more qualifiedI to be defined as Maverick of the Year.

Did I mention that Iam also her father.
