Nomination Title: World's Largest Water Screen and Projection Mapping - Laservision for Dubai Festival City

Tell the story about what this nominated organization has achieved since 1 January 2016 (up to 650 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms.

Laservision was commissioned by Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate(AFGRE) to design, create, install and maintain a 360-degree spectacular that would establish a new benchmark for tourist attractions around the globe. IMAGINE at Dubai Festival City is the result of years of research, planning and design, and spans over 20 acres across Festival Bay and Dubai Festival City Mall. The spectacular runs 365 days-a-year, day and night, playing a variety of performances including: dancing fountain shows, architectural states, day time activations and customised immersive visual creations to entertain audiences of all ages.

Beginning construction and installation in January of 2016, work was completed and IMAGINE was open to the public on December 26, 2016 and has run every day and night to present day.

As Laservision’s largest multimedia installation in the Middle East, the Dubai spectacular needed to meet the expectations of the Dubai market and be an attraction of true world firsts. To do this, many technical challenges needed to be solved and Laservision was able to deliver its technologies in a way that not only set two Guinness World Records, but also could stand the test of time technically and creatively.

One of the many installation challenges in the middle east is of course—extreme environmental conditions. Heat, sand, and saltwater all played a factor into the technologies and assets being built on-site. From the custom 600-tonne floating centrepiece of the attraction to the projection control centre of the world record setting permanent projection mapped InterContinental Hotel, all heat and corrosive sensitive equipment are air conditioned and filtered from the harsh dessert climate and installed to withstand tidal fluctuations, the elements, and day-to-day maintenance.

Ground-breaking Technical Innovations

The Centrepiece:

A bespoke 34 metre floating media control platform positioned in the centre of the Festival Bay weighing 600-tonnes and is the main focal point of the attraction. It houses and supports Festival Bay’s 50 meter Geyser, array of projectors, fountains, world record water-screens and many of the multi-media assets used to produce the attraction. This iconic piece provides;

-Dynamic adjustment to tide variation ensuring show consistency
-Support for 2 kilometres of custom-built, marine-grade salt-water fountain structure, an industry first
-A hydraulic lifting system that lowers and raises the structure vertically by 2 metres
-Guinness Record Setting Permanent Projection Mapping:

As the world’s largest permanent projection mapping, many innovative technologies were created to provide night-to-night consistency of productions, a problem which the projection-mapping industry has yet to do as most projection-mapping projects are installed as a one-off or short-run production. The slightest movement or failure of the 60 HD-projectors would be catastrophic to the show as over 15 zones of overlapping video need to align with millimetre precision to create a stunning Ultra HD projection on the Intercontinental hotel every night.

4,857 square meters (36 stories) of UHD imagery on the iconic InterContinental Hotel—4.5 x bigger than the world’s largest IMAX screen

-60 Projectors producing 1.4 million lumens of light
-15 project zones synchronised through Laservision XHD Video Servers
-World Record Water Screen Projection:

The centre promenade water screen projection consists of 3 enormous water screens blended to to create a super-wide panoramic, holographic–esk, projection screen more than twice the size of a standard IMAX screen. A total of 6, 20K projectors are used to create a seamless and brilliant image across this dynamic and fluid screen.

Each water screen is over 36 metres wide and over 13 metres tall

Multiple projectors, along with the water screens themselves, react to tidal changes and allow for millimetre precision of content projection and masking

3 separate viewing locations for an “in the round” and unique narrative experience

In bullet-list form, briefly summarize up to ten (10) of the chief accomplishments of this organization since the beginning of 2016 (up to 150 words).
