KOREA, a premium magazine that acts as a “messenger” of Korean culture for the world, plays the following roles.

First, KOREA highlights unique aspects of Korean culture by selecting special themes. Instead of focusing on topics that Korea wants to share with the world, the magazine introduces trends and issues that are of international interest, such as K-Pop, the Korean dining table, Korean festivals, and the DMZ. The articles enable readers to build a stronger connection to Korea, and stimulate their curiosity towards the country.

Second, the articles in KOREA are written by experts in the field. KOREA, which serves as the face of the nation, must contain articles that dignify the image of Korea. Depending on the topic, the articles are written by various experts such as music critics, program directors, game journalists, movie critics, and designers. The magazine is considered a source of reliable information by international readers, and plays a key role in elevating the global standing of Korea’s cultural arts.

Third, with its stylish image and design, KOREA in itself is a form of cultural content. KOREA seeks to share the most recent issues in Korea through on-site coverage. Since the design of a magazine is an indicator of the standard of cultural arts, leading designers have been recruited to convey the dynamic spirit of Korea.

Fourth, KOREA publishes articles not only in the cultural arts, but also covers government efforts aimed at enhancing the national image. Readers are kept up-to-date on the Korean government’s efforts behind issues that have come under the global spotlight, namely, the inter-Korean summit and the North Korea-US summit. Established as the Korean Overseas Information Service under the Ministry of Culture and Information in 1971, the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) has exerted significant efforts to share Korea’s cultural value with the international community and to enhance the national reputation. With 32 cultural centers in 27 countries, KOCIS is raising awareness of Korea’s beautiful culture and actively engaging in cultural exchange while producing high-quality content commensurate with the national image.

The key to enhancing Korea’s national image is consistent hard work and commitment. KOCIS publishes the monthly English magazine KOREA, which aims to introduce Korean culture and arts to international readers. The magazine not only promotes a proper understanding of Korea and its cultural arts, but also keeps readers updated on emerging trends and areas of interest.
