Briefly describe this entry's communications objectives and how it met those objectives (up to 200 words):

IFC’s annual report is its key instrument of branding and storytelling. Each year, the report strives to highlight IFC's value proposition in a distinctive way. 2017 marked an important transitional year for the organization: IFC adopted a comprehensive new strategy to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity in developing countries by 2030.

Creating markets to address development challenges—rather than merely implementing discrete initiatives—is key to this strategy. So is working with other development institutions to ensure that every available dollar is invested wherever it can do the most good.

IFC’s sought to articulate this new strategy and its impact in ways that would be easily understood by all of its stakeholders: clients, investors, governments, and IFC’s own staff. IFC titled the report Creating Markets and chose a cover design that indicated ongoing transformation—an image of stalks of rice, with IFC’s logo subtly embossed. It reorganized the report to show clearer links between goals, actions, and results. Inside pages—featuring powerful photographs, vivid colors, and stories of people who benefited directly from IFC’s work—were designed to highlight the global scale and impact of the organization’s efforts to create markets and maximize financing for development.
