The Gina Group was established in 1997 as one of the only standalone PR agencies in Kenya. Since then, the Gina Din Group has helped to build strong and lasting relationships between some of the region’s leading brands and their target audiences, including Safaricom, KCB, Kenya Airways, Central Bank of Kenya and The Kenya Red Cross, amongst many others. Led by communications and management authority Gina Din-Kariuki, the Gina Din Group has evolved over the course of 20 years and now offers the services of a large agency with a personal touch. From communication and brand strategy to high-level interview preparation, we bridge the best minds in the region to meet the specific needs of our clients. The Gina Din Group is the most awarded agency in East Africa.
Leveraging on our 20 years of Shaping African Conversations with brands such as Nestle, General Motors East Africa, L’Oreal and Heineken, the Gina Din Group tackled a diverse range of projects for the Central Bank of Kenya, Seacom, The Kenya National Examinations Council, Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa, NBA Africa Junior League and Volkswagen amongst others.
The Central Bank project involved handling media and logistics of all the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) 50th anniversary celebrations in September 2016. This included event conceptualisation and management, programme coordination, branding of the venues, photography, videography and media relations for six events: the Kenya Music Festival, the Research Symposium and Dinner, the Epic Event, the Bush Dinner and the CBK Staff Party.
The Bush Dinner at Nairobi National Park was an ‘out of the box’ idea envisioned by the Gina Din Group as it allowed international guests to take a break from discussing financial services to enjoy an authentic African experience with Kenyan hospitality. The Research Symposium, the Symposium Dinner and the Epic Event were attended by 350 guests including central bankers, dignitaries and financial experts from all corners of the globe.
In conjunction with the 50th anniversary celebrations, we developed a new website for CBK with our strategic partner MagicBox and the CBK IT department. The website, which reorganised content to better suit the needs of external users, recently won the global Central Banking Website of the Year award 2016, the first website-related award for the Gina Din Group.
In late 2016, we worked with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) as they sought to reform and restore credibility. The Gina Din Group assisted with the dissemination of messages to media houses, monitored all social media pages, provided media training to KNEC staff and helped set up a call centre to ensure efficiency during the exam period and increase public interactions with KNEC. In just three months, KNEC’S Twitter followers grew from 4,501 to 6,647 followers, while Facebook likes grew from 55,841 to 58,822 likes. The collective amount of impressions on Twitter from October-December 2016 was 489,600.
Due to the extra measures implemented, 952,472 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidates received their examination results one month early. The examinations were also granted a clean bill of health, ushering in a new era for national examinations in Kenya.
2016 concluded with the team developing and implementing a comprehensive event management strategy for the official opening of the Volkswagen Production facility in Kenya - the third Volkswagen production facility in Africa. The event was graced by 400 guests including Dr. Diess, Member of the Board of Volkswagen AG and H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta. After a guided tour and officially flagging off the first vehicle, President Kenyatta bought the first car that was assembled in Kenya.
The official hashtag #KaribuVW (Welcome VW ) reached 1,172,679 people in Kenya, while 110 users tweeted with the hashtag.
This year the Gina Din Group will celebrate our 20th anniversary. We look forward to many more years of thought-leadership, innovative work and Shaping African Conversations.
