Dr. R. Seetharaman, the Chief Executive Officer of Doha Bank and Doha Bank Assurance Company, is a prominent personality in the banking industry of Middle East, an economic expert who has achieved remarkable success for his contributions to banking, trade, investment, economics, environment, social responsibility, philanthropy for more than three decades. His research on the effects of the global financial crisis on the global economy and the significant measures taken under the theme of 'Global Governance' is highly acclaimed by the industry.

He has a distinguished academic background - he is a Chartered Accountant and holds certificates in IT Systems and Corporate Management, whilst being a Gold medallist in his graduation Bachelor of Commerce. He is recipient of multiple doctorates from leading universities of the world, including PhD in Green Banking and Sustainability from Sri Sri University and PhD in Global Governance by European University. He was endowed with the honorary degree, Doctorate of Laws by Washington College for his unique and valuable contribution to society in the field of banking, knowledge management, corporate social responsibility and governance. He was also awarded with title Doctorate of Honoris Causa from European University in for his unique and valuable contribution to global governance and social responsibility. For his dedicated efforts, he was nominated as “Good Will Ambassador” to the United Nations and prestigious “Noble Prize for Peace”.

Under his stewardship, Doha Bank was the first bank in GCC to pioneer Green Banking. He is very active in promoting Green economy in GCC emphasizing on renewable energy, green buildings, clean transportation, climate smart agriculture to address food security, water & waste management and land management with a clear vision of creating a growth model for global sustainability. He has been advocating that every bank should earmark minimum 10% of Tier 1 capital subject to a cap of 10% of risk weighted capital towards Green banking, Clean Development Mechanism or any sustainable development projects taking into consideration the carbon emissions prevailing in the economy in which bank operates. He is also committed to Corporate Social Responsibility by proactively contributing towards social causes, like creating awareness to the global corporate community on “Global Warming – causes, effects and measures”.

He has always empathized with SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Blue Collared Workers and created a specialized supply chain banking solution towards the success of the entrepreneurs. He ensured Credit facilities to SMEs, Organized seminars for entrepreneurs / SMEs imparting Technical and advisory services in addition to their financial requirements. He also signed several MOU’s with Small and Medium Business Development Chamber of different countries, advising the sectors in GCC where SMEs can participate. He has championed the causes of blue collar workers in GCC which has one of the highest percentage of migrant blue collars to total population in the world. He introduced solutions wherein within seconds their hard earned money was transferred to the banks of their choice in their home country without any involvement of middlemen or agents.
