A. Initial Situation and Ambition
CROWDCONSULTANTS was founded in summer 2016 by 2 Digital Natives and 2 former Top Executives who knew each other from joint engagements. We felt that the potentials of digitization and the growing market of highly qualified freelancers offers opportunities for Consulting 4.0 - more agile, more sustainable and at more attractive conditions for customers and employees than traditional consulting organizations investing in brick-and-mortar-infrastructure and a pool of permanent employees or the maintenance of a profile database.
Our ambition was to become a leader in consulting 4.0 with
-cross-industry and -functional range of advisory, executive search, interim management and staffing services provided by
-an intergenerational network of experts based on crowdsourcing and a digital, virtual infrastructure.
B. Strategy and Execution
To build CROWDCONSULTANTS we focused on the following 3 principles:
1) Teamwork of Digital Natives and former Top-Executives
We focus on building a stable network of entrepreneurs with skills and experiences business transformation and project management as intellectual backbone from primarily two groups:
-Young talents who have grown up with digital tools ("digital natives"), who appreciate steep learning curves from a broad variety of work content more than a stable career within one organization and understand "work-life-balance" as flexibility between intense work phases and longer breaks for travel or social or family commitment. They also highly appreciate the direct collaboration with experienced executives over working in larger teams with consultants of the same age.
-Former executives ("Best Agers") who only want to work part-time in their "second career" with less or no impact from corporate politics. They love to share their experiences as coaches/mentors with younger talents and welcome their support in using digital tools.
On our engagements we are forming teams from both generations (see enclosed ppt for case studies) to provide clients an ideal mix of industry, functional and digital experiences and skills at lower cost than traditional consulting, search and staffing organisations.
2) Crowdsourcing of relevant skills and experience as well as flexible working models
The CROWDCONSULTANTS resourcing team uses communities like Xing or LinkedIn as well as portals like freelance.de/com, Gulp or stepstone to identify suitable candidates on-demand for client engagements. Therefore, we don’t need to “sell” consultants from a costly permanent bench who often miss the ideal mix of skills and experiences for a specific job. This helps to increase client satisfaction and to offer success-based fees.
To increase our range of potential experts beyond traditional consulting companies, we offer free choice from a broad range of working models, e.g. permanent or temporary employment and freelancing, home offices, flexible working hours and time banking for sabbaticals. This also supports the satisfaction of our consultants leading to growing referrals as well as favourable ratings on KUNUNU and glassdoor.
3) Virtual infrastructure based on consistent digitisation and sharing-economy principles
CROWDCONSULTANTS relies on a digital, ISO 9001-certified, cloud-based infrastructure, geared towards location-independent scalability and maintenance. All digital applications (SaaS-based and proprietary developments)are integrated via technology-independent interfaces. By utilising sharing economy principles, e.g. the booking of meeting rooms via apps for workspace-sharing, we have established a virtual physical infrastructure without investments in fixed assets. Even the official company address is only a flexible service for scanning incoming mail and on-demand team meetings.
This approach promotes agility and sustainability as well as attractive conditions for customers and employees.
