Enterprise Software Release Digitization is a key foundational service to meet Global Architecture Technology Service strategy in order to transform Cisco IT’s Release practices into fully digitized experience.

Release Digitization provides the conversion of manual Release practices from using Aging productivity tools and war rooms into Digital Integrated, Automated, Simplified experiences with insightful data to customers. With business model pivoting to software and subscriptions, urgency to accelerate software changes with speed, risk and quality is imperative. CoDE (Continues Delivery Experience) team built sophisticated integrated tooling and process solution to facilitate our growing global footprint.


Prior to Release Digitization lines of business released change across majority of business systems, and managed orchestration via Gantt charts referred to as High Level Execution Plans (HLEP), with the following challenges:

-Manual Release practices manage change into s/w and h/w, 20 step process involving approximate 500 changes
-Massive manual manpower effort, 48-72 hours, 200+ people across 4 Global theaters
-Slow rigid Big Bang waterfall practice forcing Quarterly release, a hindrance to Agile Release Anytime practice
-72 hours just doesn’t cut it for weekly or daily releases
-Geography adds complexity to Collaboration
-Customers demanding various release patterns to handle small, medium and large applications or match the size of change


-Cisco CoDE team worked on the Digitization initiative to collaborate, Integrate and enable the Cultural process change to achieve the below business outcomes
-Release anytime, anywhere was highly desirable outcome, 10x Improvement in speed of Release
-Able to input complex orchestration patterns simply and execute them automatically, 20 to 5 step process
-Provide Real time enterprise release execution monitoring and Automated notification based on events
-Allow clients to easily play through what-if scenarios and dynamically apply scenarios
-Continues data analytics consumption to provide predictive release analysis across 2600 applications
-Improved user experience for planning from Hours to Minutes with click of button
