Purpose

The Busan Metropolitan City completely overhauled its official website to provide citizens with enhanced accessibility and convenience when accessing public data in 2016 after making its partial improvements since the first website launching in 1998.

Results

The City’s Website Services after revamping on January 1, 2017

Reorganized the home page with a media board displaying major information about Busan, an integrated search function, city’s news by category, a “Smart Photo Report” section, and customized linked information

Applied the mobile first, responsive web design optimized for mobile devices

Provide the integrated civil service and citizens’ participation services for idea suggestion, survey and online event

Provide an integrated reservation service for registration, payment and cancellation in four categories: facility use, education, site visit and cultural program

Provide the Busan City public information grouped into 14 categories

Improved its integrated searching function with automatic related keyword suggestion and keyword recommendation

Provide its own Contents Management System and used web standards to enable it in various web browsers, such as IE or Chrome

Busan City received the Ministry of the Interior Award in the “website management and improvement” category in December 2016. The City has continued to improve its website and as a result, its website earned perfect marks for its web accessibility and interoperability tests in 2016.

The number of visitors to Busan’s website per day after its revision and integration keeps increasing, marking 14,792 as of the end of March 2017.

The website of Busan Metropolitan City has been improved to enhance citizens’ access to public information by collecting and categorizing all the content from a number of different divisions, public organizations and offices that had once been fragmented across multiple websites and pages.

The official website of Busan Metropolitan City integrated a channel for civil petitions and complaints, thereby helping citizens to resolve their inconveniences and requests more quickly and efficiently.

The website provides a one-stop channel for making reservations and payments for various programs run by the city, public organizations and offices, including education/learning, site visits/experience programs and facility use, thereby enhancing user convenience.

For more efficient searching, the website strengthened its integrated searching function by adopting various technical methods, such as predictive text input.

The website provides a number of opportunities for citizens to participate in policymaking, such as surveys or giveaway events.
