DHL Resilience360 is an innovative cloud-based risk management platform that safeguards customer supply chains. It helps companies large and small to manage risk by mapping their supply chains, building risk profiles, and identifying critical hotspots.

Climate change, natural disasters, and geopolitical disruptions increasingly impact logistics. A survey of 400 companies found 74% reported negative impact on their supply chains. To mitigate for this, DHL deployed a research and evaluation team which created a new concept – a method to holistically identify, track, and manage risk. This triggered development of the highly customizable Resilience360 solution, comprising five sophisticated modules:

-Supply Chain Visualization: to more intuitively monitor supply chains
-Risk Assessment: to map and visualize the entire supply chain, increasing resilience and providing recovery options
-Risk Response: to determine optimal actions before an incident causes disruption

-Incident Monitoring: for real-time tracking of risk events in multiple categories, with automatic alerting
-Transparency Portal: for a comprehensive picture of each supply chain beyond the first tier

Used together, these products provide DHL’s customers with the logistics industry’s most robust risk management capabilities. This is particularly useful to companies using new lean production models or operating in industrial clusters, as these trends tend to increase disruption risk.

By enabling companies to respond more effectively, DHL Resilience360 turns disruption into competitive advantage. It helps companies to:

-Respond better and recover faster
-Initiate robust contingency plans without incurring high cost (e.g., no need to rely on premium-priced expedited services)
-Maintain delivery schedules and productivity levels
-Avoid brand damage and loss of market share

This solution aligns with DHL’s strategic commitment to customer-centric innovation. The organization jointly developed and piloted the concept with key customers. Since these initial deployments, DHL Resilience360 has been implemented by more than forty customers and by the NGO SOS Children’s Villages.

DHL has received much positive feedback about the solution. For example, an automotive customer can more efficiently mitigate for risks using the 48-72 hours gained from discovering incidents affecting its network. Another customer, an FMCG company, realized a 30% reduction in logistics lead time, reducing requirements for buffer stock.

An D’haenens, Du Pont Logistics Manager EMEA explains “We never looked at supply chain risk holistically before. Now we know where the risks are”. And Clara Beuttenmüller of Schneider Electric’s Global Transport Transformation Team says Resilience360 allows the company “to move from a reactive to a proactive approach to supply chain risk”.

DHL constantly strives to enhance global supply chain resilience. The organization is deeply engaged in building a logistics risk management community, and the Resilience360 team uses various platforms to showcase the solution through multiple customer presentations and workshops. Examples include DHL’s annual customer conferences for ideas exchange and best practice sharing, and customer tours of the DHL Innovation Centers in Germany and Singapore. In addition, DHL continues to refine and extend the Resilience360 solution: the Transparency Portal module was recently added and, in 2016, DHL launched a dedicated solution website.
