Collaboration in the Gig Economy: Connecting & Optimizing the Talent Supply Chain, Staffing Industry Analysts' newest annual conference, debuted September 21-21nd 2016 at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, NV. The event was the first-ever of its kind in the sphere, bringing together the entire spectrum of the talent supply chain-- including staffing suppliers, workforce solutions buyers, VMS/MSP & RPO providers and gig economy/human cloud companies-- to address the challenges, opportunities and paradigms that are emerging as the world of work transforms. Jobs and tasks are being redefined around the globe and talent is engaging in whole new ways, particularly via online platforms. The unique two-day conference program explored what these shifts mean for businesses and what is developing at the exciting intersection of technology and talent.

Objectives included delving into the rapid disruption of work and talent models; attracting top players from across the workforce solutions ecosystem to participate and interact; aligning the conference with SIA’s cutting edge research, editorial content and insights; and creating a foundation from which to grow the conference as an annual event that will attract Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) members and non-members alike in a forum for collaboration and innovation.

Tapping our network of members, partners, and our own extensive in-house expertise on workforce solutions, SIA put together a best-in-class program covering the current, urgent and most topical issues arising as the Gig Economy revolutionizes how work is being done around the globe. With high profile litigation (such as the cases involving Uber) ongoing and new models of work arrangements (including more on-demand models) taking hold, businesses increasingly understand the need to stay abreast of latest developments to be competitive into the future.

With exciting new research into the gig economy, we were able to deliver ground-breaking content into the hands of delegates, as well as draw on the experience of companies leading the way in the online staffing and human cloud sectors to encourage a collective, industry-wide step into the future of work.

Our keynote panels and concurrent sessions featured CEOs, thought-leaders and academics sharing unique perspectives, debates, learnings, ideas and regulatory updates in a forum geared towards collaboration. Sponsors and exhibitors showcased the latest knowledge, products and trends, as attendees took the opportunity to contribute across the conference platforms, educate themselves and network both formally and informally.

The event, which we had hoped would attract 350 delegates, welcomed 622 attendees to the inaugural conference. Through active email marketing segmented to our different audiences, high levels of social media engagement, targeted advertising, positioning of the event to co-locate/coincide/bundle registration with one of our established buyer conferences (CWS Summit), and visibility through independent PR efforts by our speakers and sponsors, we well-exceeded the goal set for the all-new conference. We are already noted as a Top Staffing Conference for 2017 and, although we have not activated our marketing campaign yet, we already have paid registrations for this year’s edition, suggesting we have indeed created a deeply relevant foundation for the event-- and the dialogue, learning and advancement it fosters-- going forward.
