Briefly describe this entry’s communications objectives and how it met those objectives (up to 200 words):
Our long term success depends on the trust we build with customers, partners, and each other (internal Microsoft teams). The passion employees bring to work every day must be supported by a corporate culture that fosters trust, and ensures that if anything is wrong, employees can freely speak up, so that we can fix it.
Our three goals were to
1. Drive continued growth in awareness and use of compliance resources.
2. Shift from rules-based to values/culture-based program narrative.
3. Empower employees to make ethical decisions and foster a culture where employees can ask questions and report concerns without fear of retaliation.
We engaged executives to connect compliance to the business objectives of the company, in our annual training, but also in field sales visits, all-hands meetings, and executive keynotes. Our training was revamped to help employees see connect the importance of reporting concerns, even if they don’t have all the facts. Through March 2017 we say a 3% increase in employees reporting concerns over the previous year, and our message adopted by additional leaders within the company. In March, we launched a short manager training, tying their role to the overall work of building trust.
