Briefly describe this entry’s communications objectives and how it met those objectives (up to 200 words):
Johns Manville (JM) is a Berkshire Hathaway company and a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality building and specialty products. We employ 7,000 people and operate 43 manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and China. Safety is a top priority for our company and we continually look for ways to share best practices. JM engaged Denver-based Reel Creative in fall 2017 to produce four safety videos to showcase at the company’s Executive Leadership Conference in January 2018. The company’s top 160 leaders from throughout our global operations are invited to this conference. The video we are entering in The American Business Awards features an employee-driven safety program at JM’s plant in Defiance, Ohio. The employee-run safety process is called BEWARE – Behavior Effects Workers at Risk Everywhere. BEWARE steering committee members conduct regular safety observations of other employees, identify ways to make the plant safer and work with plant leadership to promote a positive safety culture. Since the conference, we have shared the video with the entire company as a best practice to improve safety culture. The video is both educational and inspirational – and will help JM strive for zero harm in the workplace.
