Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 650 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date.

For 40 years, Cast & Crew Entertainment Services has been providing best-in-class payroll and production accounting solutions to the entertainment industry. Their suite of production-management services includes payroll processing, residuals processing, workers' compensation services and financial services.

Then came the passage of the Affordable Care Act, where many employers – especially those in the entertainment industry – found themselves struggling to comply with new and sometimes complicated regulations. With a pending year-end deadline and potential penalties looming, Cast & Crew searched for a solution for their customers by reviewing the new legislature in detail to identify areas most relevant. Valuable time was spent individually speaking with clients about their business needs and why other healthcare plans didn’t meet or fit their own requirements. In the end, the company was able to fill a prominent void in the market by implementing a new and unique, industry-specific offering: Cast & Crew Open Health.

Cast & Crew Open Health is a fully insured healthcare trust to offer the first-and-only entertainment industry-wide, multiple-employer program designed for non-union employees. The Plan brings to the industry several solutions such as simplified sign-up, accurate budget allocation and simple reporting for tracking terminations and rehires—functions not available from any other competitors. Since launch, Cast & Crew Open Health has continued to adapt to new compliance laws with consistent updates.

Great care, vision and time went into developing this much needed industry solution, and in just a little over a year after Open Health’s introduction to market, companies that have signed up far exceed initial projections. The overwhelmingly positive response is a result of the fact that Open Health isn’t just another healthcare program created simply to compete with current offerings, but it is a plan created with the specific goal of helping entertainment industry employees. Now, more than 12,000 part-time entertainment workers – who never had access to “portable” healthcare insurance before – have the ability and access to be covered.

Designing such a specific plan spanned several months and involved extensive meetings with lawyers, healthcare specialists and clients in the marketplace to understand how to build the best and most affordable program for its customers.

While Cast & Crew faced competition already in the market, they understood that in order to be successfully received, Open Health had to address the lifestyle and previous unmet needs of entertainment workers. In this, Cast & Crew Open Health is able to:

--Provide employers with large-group pricing, regardless of the size of their company – big or small – and benefits that are superior to market-based coverage that can be obtained elsewhere.

--Comply with Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the ACA and other applicable laws, and is funded through a trust that has been established for the exclusive benefit of the participants. The trust will hold all the insurance contracts and be a conduit for payment of premiums.

--Enroll individuals in the largest national network in the country, Anthem Blue Cross, with more than 900,000 providers. Anthem members have access to more than 90% of hospitals and physicians nationwide—more than any other insurer.

--Provide portability for the employer irrespective of their payroll-service provider and for employees who become covered under the Plan.

With everything Open Health has to offer, Cast & Crew is proud to be doing its part to help lower the uninsured population by providing a reasonable coverage plan to many in the entertainment industry who previously went without health insurance.
