As more companies adopt data lakes, the need for graph databases is quickly becoming an essential solution for data management and analytics in any industry. For example, in the last year we have seen the emergence of key graph database technology like Thomson Reuters Knowledge Graph Feed, a graph database in the financial services industry, and Amazon Neptune, the new fully managed graph database service from Amazon Web Services (AWS). Graph databases enable easy access of data, analytics, and reusable insights for any authorized user, ultimately improving business decision-making and lowering overall IT costs.
Most graph databases are designed for, and excel at, “point” queries and insertions that represent a Graph Online Transaction Processing (GOLTP) use cases, such as finding data on specific entities. GOLTP is designed for discovering big data, patterns, trends, anomalies and other insights.
In February 2018, Semantics, the leading provider of a universal semantic layer for big data management and connected data analytics solutions, announced the launch of its AnzoGraph™, a native graph-based parallel query engine available for analyzing data from Amazon Neptune. AnzoGraph™, which was under development since 2011, is built to query and interactively analyze trillions of relationships, running 111x faster than its nearest competitor.
