Briefly describe this entry’s communications objectives and how it met those objectives (up to 200 words):
The inaugural edition of the Technology Association of Oregon’s (TAO) Techlandia magazine was created to establish and showcase Oregon as a global hub for innovation. With 68 pages of feature articles, company profiles, statistics and other insights about tech in Oregon, the magazine is designed for use by the tech industry in reaching out to prospective talent, clients, companies and funders. The organization partnered with a Portland, Oregon-based communications agency, A.wordsmith, to identify topics, including feature profile subjects and ongoing trends; conduct interviews and research; draft content; and design the magazine.
In the first two months, the comprehensive look at the regional tech scene was viewed by more than 2,500 people, with more than 225 people subscribing to receive the next edition. Reaction to the publication was uniformly positive, and plans for the 2018 version are already underway. The TAO is building on its success with continued outreach, including use in its own marketing campaigns and as a tool for career, recruiting and business centers across the country. The TAO is also counseling several other tech associations and councils about best practices in creating a similar guide for their regions.
