Nomination Title: Launch of PURITY FOOD GRADE LUBRICANTS WITH ANTIMICROBIAL EFFICACY

   1. Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 500 words). Describe its functions, features, benefits, and sales results to date. You may include here hyperlinks to product photographs and data sheets. IMPORTANT: Begin each link with http://, and enclose each link in square brackets; for example, [http://www.youraddress.com]:

The food industry presents some unique challenges for lubricants.  The demands
of increasingly harsh operating environments and the stringent safety
restrictions of lubricant composition are tough to balance in keeping equipment
performance level high.  But these are just the kinds of challenges that Petro-
Canada thrives on.  Petro-Canada is committed to supplying lubricants to the
food industry to address requirements and challenges for today as well as
looking forward.  The performance of our PURITY* FG lubricants exceeds many
conventional lubricants for lubrication requirements, a large scale improvement
from where food grade lubricants were just two short decades ago.

To further build on product leadership and to address a growing concern in food
plants around microbial growth in lubricants, in early 2007, Petro-Canada
launched the  PURITY* FG with MICROL*†.  line. Featured in hydraulic and gear
oils and food machinery grease,  PURITY FG AW Hydraulic Fluid with MICROL,
PURITY FG EP Gear Fluid with MICROL and PURITY FG FM Grease with MICROL all
contain an antimicrobial preservative to protect the lubricant from
deterioration, fouling and odour caused by microorganisms.  This helps to
maintain the lubricants in effective operating condition and achieves
          optimization of equipment performance.

Even before the introduction of anti-microbial lubricant protection, food
processing machinery lubricants presented some unique challenges.  Stringent
regulations, harsh environmental conditions and rigorous plant operations
require a well-designed food grade lubricant.  Petro-Canada has established an
excellent reputation in quality and performance with its PURITY industrial food
grade line and with the addition of MICROL, a new level in lubricant product
          protection has been achieved.

MICROL is the first and only U.S. EPA registered antimicrobial preservative for
lubricants with incidental food contact.  These products also have the required
industry credentials and fit perfectly in HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Point) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) plans.

PURITY FG with MICROL is the only food grade lubricants on the market that is
fully compliant with both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and EPA
regulatory requirements.  The products are registered with NSF International
(The Public Health and Safety Company) as an H1 lubricant (lubricants for
incidental food contact), CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) as a lubricant
(incidental food contact) and is permitted to be used in the preparation of
          Kosher and Halal food.

Development of a antimicrobial food grade lubricant line with a high degree of
product efficacy while ensuring that all additives comply with FDA and that all
materials are suitable to gaining approvals (EPA, NSF), along with suitability
for preparation of Kosher and Halal foods meant that the development was a
process that took over 4 years prior to the launch of the product in March 2007.

Petro-Canada sees the development, approvals and launch of this product as one
more benchmark in showing our corporate responsibility to our communities’
health and safety – a cornerstone of our values.
