Nomination Title: Medting

Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its functions, features, benefits, and performance to date:

In 2014, Best Doctors unveiled the Medting™ solution, a cutting-edge, cloud-based software that allows medical professionals around the world to easily and securely collaborate on their most complex cases while enabling access to shared diagnostic image and video files. Imagine the benefit when physicians in the most remote parts of the world, with little to no access to expert medical advice, can collaborate on challenging cases with multiple colleagues across institutions and even countries in an open, transparent and nearly real-time way.

Medting enables physicians to work together on challenging cases, share files and diagnostic images, and build an educational library of medical information. It creates an ideal forum for online tumor boards and other disease-specific meetings by negating time and scheduling conflicts.

Hospitals, medical societies and health systems are using the online collaboration platform to expand physicians’ access to knowledge and shared understanding. Using the Medting enterprise solution, Best Doctors® provides a private, branded forum for each client, wherein the client’s physicians can login and submit a case for peer-to-peer consultation, ask questions of other physicians or conduct training courses for students.

A physician in one part of the world facing a complicated case can immediately access peer physicians in a completely different part of the world and share access to relevant medical records, family history, and imaging. This technology has the potential to save lives thousands of miles away, often in situations where access is the critical deterrent to the highest level of medical care.

Just a few weeks ago, Medting was named one of 13 “Volunteer Achievement” projects honored by the Botín Foundation among 550 nominated endeavors. Best Doctors was honored for its ability to use the power of physician collaboration, telemedicine, and partnerships with major medical missions to bring improved health outcomes to those who suffer from life-threatening medical conditions made worse by a lack of local resources.

Working in conjunction with the Recover Hospitals for Africa Foundation, Best Doctors was able to introduce the cutting-edge Medting platform which seamlessly connects physicians in Spain with physicians throughout Africa to collaborate on the most complex cases. In Cameroon, where there are .8 physicians for every 10,000 people, Best Doctors has introduced its Medting platform, allowing physicians there to immediately collaborate with physicians from a variety of disciplines in Spain on their most complex cases. Before Medting, doctors and volunteers were using mail and email when available to exchange information. The response times have dramatically improved leading to greater patient outcomes.
