Blacklane was founded by Jens Wohltorf and Frank Steuer in 2011. As frequent travelers, they saw a need for a single global professional driver service. Their vision was a smarter way to book and manage rides - reliable and efficient with fair, fixed and all-inclusive rates. They started out with Frank building the technical part of the team, and Jens the business operations.
All Blacklane drivers are commercially licensed and insured, helping Blacklane avoid regulatory barriers to entry around the world. Blacklane’s state-of-the-art systems and a multi-lingual 24/7 Customer Care team coordinates tens of thousands of quality cars in real time. Rides can be scheduled via Blacklane’s website or its iOS and Android apps.
Using customer data and feedback, the founders adapted to the growing demand for their service. They standardized practices for customer service, provided online driver training, created a paperless international document management system, and developed their own call center software to intelligently link customer and driver profiles with their incoming calls. Blacklane guarantees fair and all-inclusive fixed rates at the time of the booking with their unique pricing and dispatching algorithm.
Blacklane wants to be on all channels where travelers book their trips. Therefore, the company cooperates with blue-chip partners such as Amadeus, Booking.com, Expedia, Hertz, Lufthansa, Sabre's TripCase, and TripAdvisor's Viator, HRS, Lufthansa's Miles & More, and Asia Miles.
To build its global network of driver partners, Blacklane has proven how it helps them fill their spare capacities with no additional costs. By December 2013, Blacklane was available in 131 cities. In December 2016 the service reached 250 cities. The target continues to be business and frequent leisure travelers around the world, and the most common ride is airport transfers. Blacklane is examining new services such as city-to-city transportation to compete with rail and short-haul flights.

In the past year, Blacklane secured new funding and has expanded its network of commercially licensed and insured professional drivers to 64 new cities across 12 Asia-Pacific countries.

Blacklane has globalized the service in a more affordable and reliable way. In just five years, Blacklane has established a presence in more than 50 countries, 250 cities and 500 airports around the world to provide peace of mind for travelers.
The company plans additional geographic growth, particularly in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, and more integrations with travel providers.
