Nomination Title: Vivint Gives Back Project

Tell the story about what this nominated organization achieved since January 1 2011 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Vivint is a leading home automation company that not only believes in providing quality products and services to its customers, but also in building the communities in which they reside.

The company’s Vivint Gives Back Project continues to generate unparalleled success. The service initiative was created to focus the efforts of Vivint employees on banding together to alleviate hardship and restore hope for people in need. Through Vivint Gives Back, Vivint employees had the opportunity to contribute time and resources to a multitude of year-round service projects ranging from cleanup efforts in the aftermaths of the Joplin tornado and Hurricane Ike to providing meals at a Ronald McDonald House and adopting a local elementary school where employees mentor and tutor students at risk.

The Vivint Gives Back Project also includes an annual competition among charities on Facebook, and in 2011, Vivint awarded a total of $1.25 million to the winning charities. Impressively, Vivint and its employees donated $1 million and the additional $250,000 was generated by the charities’ supporters, who made donations during several matching periods. The campaign is designed to raise money for charitable non-profits across the United States and Canada; increase awareness for those charities through social media; help motivate them to build their own social media network of supporters to benefit their cause long after the competition is completed; and to help Vivint spread its philanthropic efforts throughout North America.

Security Sales & Integration magazine recognized the Vivint Gives Back Project as the “Best Community Outreach Program” with a 2011 SAMMY Award.

Through both monetary and service donations, Vivint also works closely with leading non-profits across North America, including Habitat for Humanity and Feed My Starving Children.

During the summer of 2011, Vivint partnered with Habitat for Humanity to provide safe and secure homes throughout the country. Vivint not only offered monetary funds of $100,000, but also donated $100,000 worth of security devices. In addition, the company hosted the “Days of Service,” a time set aside for Vivint employees to donate time and manpower to building homes for Habitat for Humanity.

Vivint believes that corporate social responsibility shouldn’t begin and remain at the executive level, but that it should span across every management level. This past August, Vivint employees and their families gathered in the company’s on-site gymnasium for a two-day effort to package meals for Feed My Starving Children, a faith-based non-profit organization that strives to eliminate starvation. These meals were shipped to orphanages, schools and community feeding programs throughout the world.

Through Vivint’s efforts to support non-profits and those in need, the company has developed a unique culture of giving. Vivint believes that to better serve its customers it must also serve those communities where its customers reside—and that effort starts with every employee.
