With more consumers than ever connecting their mobile devices to their HD displays to recreate a big screen experience for interactive video applications like gaming, wireless technology has become critical in the delivery of seamless and robust connectivity. Delivering the highest quality HD video with ultra-low latency that doesn’t sacrifice reliability, WirelessHD® – a specification optimized for multi-gigabit data rate wireless connectivity based on 60GHz technology – is now a reality for mobile devices with Silicon Image’s latest offering, the UltraGig™ 6400.

With the UltraGig 6400, consumers no longer have to strain their eyes to play their favorite mobile devices on the handheld’s small screen. Rather, consumers are able to witness a real-time, larger than life mobile gaming experience. WirelessHD bridges the video and gaming performance gap of wireless devices and underscores how this standard enables interactive, high-definition (HD) video and real-time gaming on larger screens with no wires and no delays. Ideally suited for real-time mobile gaming and interactive video applications, the fully integrated, ultra-low-power, 60GHz WirelessHD transmitter ensures that high-quality 1080p HD video can be transmitted with near-zero latency.

Introduced in December 2012, Silicon Image’s UltraGig™ 6400 is the industry’s first complete 60GHz WirelessHD® transmitter for mobile devices that integrates a 60GHz RF transceiver, baseband processor and embedded antenna array into a single IC package – meeting the power, size and performance requirements of mobile products, specifically smartphones and tablets. The ultra-low power UltraGig 6400 transmitter enables robust HD wireless video connectivity between portable devices and large displays, receivers and other devices within the WirelessHD ecosystem, delivering a cable-like quality connection without wires.

The innovative design of the UltraGig 6400 combines the intelligent beam-forming technology of a 60GHz RF transceiver with an embedded antenna array to enable a secure, high-bandwidth video link to WirelessHD-compliant receivers and displays, thereby eliminating the interference with Wi-Fi-based solutions.

The UltraGig 6400 transmitter is designed for low-power operation, with all components in an easy-to-integrate, ultra-small form factor 10mm x 7mm package, thus eliminating the need for separate antenna placement. Additionally, the UltraGig 6400 includes an integrated MHL® (Mobile High-Definition Link) 2.0 compliant transmitter for optional wired connectivity that provides charging when connected to a larger MHL-enabled display.

Additional features of the UltraGig 6400 include:
•    WirelessHD 1.1 compliant RF transceiver and baseband processor
•    Integrated in-package 60GHz antenna array
•    Ultra-low end-to-end system latency of less than 5ms
•    500mW typical power consumption
•    Support for video resolutions up to 1080p full HD with multi-channel audio
•    Standard video and control interfaces to popular mobile application processors
•    Fully compatible with Silicon Image Gen3 and all WirelessHD 1.1 compliant receivers
•    Integrated MHL 2.0 compliant transmitter for optional wired HD video connections
