P&G recognizes that the future involves globalization, technology and uncertainty. While P&G has achieved lasting success, how will this $86 billion company build upon this success and navigate such a dynamic future?

P&G embarked on a “Going Digital” journey with the goal of digitizing the company from end to end. This lofty goal requires a global transformation but will yield a big reward in terms of tangible business results:

• $1 billion hard savings
• 5 times faster decision making
• 50% cycle time reduction (increasing speed to market)

The company looked at four areas that drive digital capabilities and create a real-time environment. They assessed their current capabilities and how that could be turned into a game changer – ways to increase speed and productivity. It’s no easy task, but P&G is well on its way to Going Digital and has many early successes.

Here’s a look at the four main pillars of Going Digital.

Digital Business Intelligence

P&G already has a sophisticated understanding of its data. New visualization tools, innovations like the Cockpits (data and information centers) and Business Sufficiency data analytics are helping the company see things they never could before to enable faster decision making.

Digital Value Chain

As the world’s third largest value chain, P&G knows something about doing things faster, better and cheaper but the company has remapped all of its processes from manufacturing to enterprise architecture to gain every possible efficiency.

Digital Consumer Engagement

P&G serves more than 4 billion consumers, but initiatives like 1 Consumer Place, Consumer Pulse and New Sales Channels are helping the company build even closer relationships than ever before leading P&G to 1:1 marketing with its consumers.

Digital Organization

P&G is making it easier for its world-class talent pool of employees to work. Whether it’s arming the sales force with iPads and apps for more productive sales or productivity events like AMP IT UP to upgrade employee computers, peak performance and productivity gains are extremely important. Harnessing new technology and Going Digital is what will transform the company.

As in many organizations, culture change is never easy – especially an end-to-end global transformation. Some people are used to doing things a certain way, and by changing this, it causes uncertainty. Consistent communications and demonstrating the results of these innovations has been one of the keys to the Going Digital success.

Digitizing P&G from end to end is no easy task, but it is measurable and real progress is being made. The Going Digital transformation will be measured by the following goals:

• Obtain a 100% Going Digital conversion
• Increase speed to market by 5 times
• Achieve 30% productivity gains

For P&G, the digital future is now.
