Nomination Title: Marvell® DragonFly™ platform

Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date:

Created by Marvell, the worldwide leader in integrated silicon solutions, the Marvell® DragonFly™ platform is the industry’s first unified storage caching and cloud computing I/O acceleration adapter powered by embedded cache processor technology.  Marvell DragonFly delivers highly sustained write performance with commodity SSD drives by removing the ‘write-cliff’ issues seen in SSDs.

DragonFly fits seamlessly into  commercially available servers, combining Marvell’s world-class chip technology with its newly designed circuit boards. The result is a breakthrough systems solution that is designed to achieve 10-100x server I/O performance, while significantly reducing power, space and storage capital costs in the datacenter. What’s more, DragonFly is perfectly suited for virtualized server and bare-metal scale-out DAS applications, which have become hugely popular in enterprise data centers, public and private cloud computing, and is now available in three models: NVRAM, NVCACHE and NVDRIVE.

Marvell’s DragonFly NVRAM is the only solution in the industry to combine large non-volatile DRAM capacity, ultra-low latency, and massive bandwidth to scale with the new generation of hyperscale and mega data center cloud computing environments.  With up to 8GB of DRAM (8x – 30x the capacity of typical competing solutions) and 19uS latency, DragonFly delivers unmatched, industry-leading performance. Leveraging highly optimized Marvell DMA engines, DragonFly sustains an unprecedented throughput of 3.2GB/S in applications such as on line transaction processing (OLTP), archival, and NoSQL/big data.  This breakthrough performance is 10x-30x that of typical competing solutions.

Marvell’s DragonFly NVCACHE is the industry’s only multi-protocol, unified storage SSD caching adapter.  Providing seamless connectivity with iSCSI (IP SAN), FCP (Fibre Channel SAN), NFS (NAS) and SCSI (local DAS), the NVCACHE is a fault tolerant, enterprise class (no SPOF) caching adapter that scales to meet the most pressing business and mission critical data center application needs.

A large 8GB non-volatile memory seamlessly integrates with up to 1.5TB SSD capacity to enable industry-leading “write-back” caching delivering 10-100X higher virtual machine (VM) IOPS, 10X the virtual machine density  and up to 50x lower latency than traditional 2.5" SSDs. In addition, intelligent in-line coalescence and de-duplication ensure predictable performance and completely eliminate the write cliff associated with SSD devices, while Dynamic Cache Provisioning also optimizes cache sizes in real time to meet VM system requirements.

The Marvell DragonFly NVDRIVE is the third in a series of DragonFly products aimed to accelerate data center delivery of today’s most popular applications including global, social or cloud computing apps. The Marvell DragonFly NVDRIVE is an enterprise-class PCIe solid-state drive (SSD) accelerator solution built on Marvell world class SoC technology. It offers revolutionary hardware-based I/O acceleration that not only reduces system complexity, but also dramatically scales virtualized server and OLTP/DSS database server performance, while lowering the capital spending costs for network attached storage/storage area networks (NAS/SAN) and local direct attached storage (DAS).

The DragonFly NVRAM SSD accelerator was also recently named a silver winner in the Enterprise Product of the Year category by the Best in Biz Awards, the only independent business awards program judged by members of the press and industry analysts.
