Nomination Title: Internap's Agile Hosting Service

Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date:

As more organizations opt to outsource business-critical applications and content to third-party providers, they are faced with determining the right mix of IT infrastructure services to meet specific cost, scalability, control and performance requirements. While a shared public cloud offers the convenience of easily scaling infrastructure up and down on-demand, it typically delivers less security and performance than dedicated, physical infrastructure.

As a result, enterprises may opt to host workloads such as databases or other highly resource-intensive applications on physical infrastructure while hosting Web servers or test environments on cloud infrastructure. The reality is that many enterprises require both scenarios, which is driving demand for flexible, hybrid IT infrastructure solutions that can easily adapt and scale to meet a wide range of use cases and application needs.

In April 2012, Internap announced its new Agile Hosting Service to meet these emerging demands. The fully hybridized service allows enterprises to seamlessly mix, provision and manage both virtual cloud and “bare metal” (physical) IT infrastructure to meet diverse application and changing global business needs. Backed by robust automation, an easy-to-use online storefront lets customers self-provision virtual cloud and bare metal servers in just minutes. Integrated with Internap’s global, route-optimized IP transit service and Content Delivery Network, the Agile Hosting Service also ensures superior application performance and scalability.

For applications prone to large traffic spikes that also require the highest levels of security, control and performance, Internap’s physical servers deliver the unique benefits of “bare metal clouds”. Since Internap’s physical servers can be instantly spun up or down as global demand dictates, customers gain the convenience and agility of the cloud with the reliability and performance of physical servers – along with no-commit hourly and monthly billing models. With Internap’s new Agile Hosting service, customers have access to an unparalleled hybrid IT infrastructure solution with the flexibility to serve broad application needs that can scale according to global business demands in real time.
TEXT REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION
Internap’s Agile Hosting service is particularly valuable for websites with a high number of page views and highly variable traffic volume, which requires computing flexibility and a robust website infrastructure to handle variable traffic patterns on a regular basis.
These requirements can be met using a combination of AgileSERVERS (dedicated physical servers), AgileCLOUD (virtual cloud servers), and a Content Delivery Network (CDN). The solution can be structured in two tiers: base tier and burstable tier. The base tier includes the core infrastructure to maintain a 24/7 web presence while the burstable tier provides incremental capacity to support periodic traffic spikes.  Additionally, ease of use and flexibility provided by a centralized API and portal enable Internap customers to mix and match and seamlessly manage physical and virtual servers from the same interface.
