Nomination Category: Products & Product Management Categories
Nomination Sub Category: Product Development/Management Executive of the Year

Nomination Title: Ian Huynh, VP of Engineering

1. Tell the story about what this nominee achieved since January 1 2009 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Ian Huynh has over 20 years experience in the software and services markets. He
is viewed as an expert by his peers and colleagues in integration, cloud
computing and security, among other topics. In addition to running the
engineering organization, Ian is a critical resource for prospects, customers
and partners. He is one of those rare individuals who is both deeply technical
but fully understands the business requirements and challenges. He can talk to
an IT manager, a CIO or a business manager and tailor the conversation
accordingly, ranging from a deep architecture discussion to one focused on how
to improve accuracy and time to market across a supply chain community. Ian is
often called upon to deliver expert opinions on current event topics such as
how technology can be used to maximize supply and demand chain management,
security, integration best practices and project implementation. Ian has been
featured in publications such as Network World and CS Techcast, a technology
network for IT pros.

Over the past year, Ian drove several strategic mandates that helped companies
address business and IT challenges more cost effectively, while positively
impacting the business. For example, he worked with IBM engineering and
business leaders to integrate several components of IBM WebSphere onto the
Hubspan platform to create a new joint solution called WebSpan. WebSpan is a
SaaS integration platform (software as a service) that gives IBM customers a
new choice in utilizing IBM technology. WebSpan starts at just $2,500 per
month, which makes IBM technology now accessible to smaller enterprises, which
it has not been before. Many mid-sized enterprises have deployed WebSpan to
improve relationships with key customers or partners. In fact, our research has
shown that companies using integration see dramatic improvements to their
business, including up to 100% customer retention, 20% increase in revenue, and
99% order accuracy. During times of economic downturn, like we saw in 2009,
retaining customers is critical to a company’s survival and growth.

In addition, Ian has partnered with marketing and client services to develop
new packaged integration processes for suppliers and companies with supply
chain integration challenges, including punchout, e-invoicing, purchase order
exchange, advanced EDI and others. These packages enable fast supplier on-
ramping and a cost-effective way to improve collaboration and information
exchange between companies and their vast supply chain communities.

These past couple of years have reinforced Ian’s belief that any solution
should be able to support business goals and priorities. He not only works with
customers and partners to realize this, he also works with his own engineering
team to ensure that new features and improvements to the WebSpan solution are
focused on further improving the experience and results for our customers. In
determining the roadmap, Ian is always asking the question of customer
experience and business impact.

Ian is also a great manager. He has had zero turnover in his engineering
organization over the past two years, and recently, he was given the
responsibility to oversee the operations organization in addition to
engineering.
