Honeywell innovates technologies to address some of the world’s toughest challenges such as, safety and security, energy efficiency, clean energy generation, and globalization. In fact, if Honeywell’s existing technologies were widely adopted in the United States alone, energy demand could be reduced by 20 percent to 25 percent.

The Honeywell Operating System (HOS), Functional Transformation (FT), and Velocity Product Development™ (VPD™) are internal business processes driving efficiency and service quality, bringing world-class products and services to market faster and more cost-effectively for our customers.

Honeywell Chairman and CEO, Dave Cote’s latest business model innovation is HOS Gold, which gives more decision-making power to managers at 74 units within its Aerospace, Performance Materials and Technologies, and Automation and Control Solutions strategic business groups. The idea is to foster a more entrepreneurial culture that’s responsive to customers and gets product to market faster using the support and efficiencies of a large company. Honeywell believes in big company cost effectiveness with technical and functional excellence married with small company speed and customer responsiveness.

Recent innovations in Honeywell’s three businesses include –

1. Honeywell Aerospace

• Honeywell designed and developed the Orion spacecraft’s command and data handling hardware, navigation systems and core operating software.
• Honeywell Aerospace has released the Weather Information Service, which is a new online weather service delivered through a mobile app and tablet that will alert pilots to potentially hazardous weather along their flight path.
• Honeywell Aerospace has developed a suite of avionics technologies enabling pilots to better monitor the surrounding airspace and provide greater situational awareness, including:
o Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS),
o SmartRunway/SmartLanding,
o SmartTraffic Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), and
o Flight Data and Cockpit Voice Recorders and Flight Management Systems.
• Honeywell provides aircraft equipment and airtime services to bring the benefits of OneWeb Ltd.’s planned satellite constellation to business, commercial and military flights.
• Honeywell, Inmarsat and Kymeta are creating a new, higher-speed Ka-Band wireless antenna to bring faster connectivity and quality broadband service to business and commercial aircraft around the globe.
• Honeywell began testing voice recognition inside aircraft cockpits, using a recently developed rapid prototyping system that allows emerging technologies like voice recognition control to more easily integrate into flight decks.

2. Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions

• Honeywell developed a software service using automated demand response technology that allows homeowners and businesses to connect with contractors and utilities to continuously monitor, diagnose and resolve potential issues to save time, costs and headaches, and make the grid smarter.
• Honeywell’s new Industrial Cyber Security Lab will advance development and testing of new technologies and software to defend industrial facilities from cyber attacks.
• Honeywell’s new Attune Advisory Services provides enhancements that can reduce utility bills and operating expenses up to 20 percent.

3. Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies

• Honeywell expanded its Solstice® line of lower-global-warming-potential hydrofluoro-olefin refrigerants, blowing agents, aerosol propellants, and solvents to include new solutions for industrial cooling and supermarket refrigeration.
• Honeywell Green Jet Fuel™ produced from its UOP Renewable Jet Fuel process reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
• Honeywell PowerShield™ Cool Black, is a black laminate film designed to help make black solar panels cooler and more efficient.
• Honeywell’s UOP/Eni Ecofining™ process technology is producing more than 130 million gallons of renewable diesel a year at the largest commercial advanced biofuel facility in the U.S.
• Honeywell Green Diesel™ is chemically identical to petroleum-based diesel and a drop-in replacement in vehicles with no modifications.
• 85 percent of the world’s biodegradable detergents, 70 percent of its polyester, and more than 60 percent of the world’s gasoline are all made using Honeywell UOP technologies.
• Honeywell opened three R&D laboratories at the Honeywell Center of Excellence in the Czech Republic to help increase the quality, reliability, and performance of various electronic and wireless products.
