Nomination Title: HP Officejet Pro X576dw

Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date:

The HP Officejet Pro X576dw is HP’s first printer to deploy HP’s PageWide Technology, making it the world’s fastest desktop printer at 70 pages per minute of output. Traditionally laser printers control the small office market; the Officejet Pro X576dw makes it affordable to introduce ink into the office for the first time, delivering costs as low as 1.3 cents per page for black and 6.8 cents for color.  PageWide technology evolved from HP’s commercial print operations – such as printing books and magazines - and for the first time has been slimmed down to fit in a small office unit.

In the Officejet Pro X series, the paper passes underneath the PageWide stationary printhead where 42,000 ink nozzles print on the page simultaneously, enabling the fast print speeds that captured the Guinness World Record. HP’s PageWide Technology not only delivers fast speeds, but also increases printing reliability due to fewer moving parts, unlike traditional ink printheads that move back and forth across the page. In fact, the printhead is guaranteed for the life of the printer, a significant upgrade from other inkjet printers. In addition, HP PageWide Technology’s quality improves with more use, unlike laser drums that degrade over time. This is the only printer on the market that uses this technology.

HP’s technology team has also improved the ink formula to match the speed demands of the printer. The 970 and 971 ink cartridges feature quick-drying, long-lasting pigment inks that are water-and fade-resistant and will not smear if the paper gets wet.

This printer has revolutionized the way businesses think about inkjet printers in the office. Perhaps most important for the end user, the combination of technologies allows the ink to operate at a high efficiency – 9,200 pages per cartridge at a very low cost per page; 1.3 cents for black and 6.8 cents for color. These figures appeal to the price-conscious SMB that wants the speed and perks of a laser for a lower overall cost. It delivers up to twice the speed at half the printing cost compared with color laser multifunction printers. It also uses 50 percent less energy and 50 percent less cartridge and packing materials.

The HP Officejet Pro X576dw was announced February 11, 2013. Professional reviewers who have used this printer have raved about its fast print speed, low cost per page, high-quality text and graphics, and new technology. PCMag, PrinterComparison and Computer Shopper all awarded the printer Editor’s Choice awards and some of the highest marks HP has ever seen for a printer. In his review, David Stone of PCMag agrees that this printer is revolutionary to the printing world. In his review, he stated, “Its HP Officejet Pro X576dwcombination of fast speed, high-quality output, and excellent paper handling …put it way out in front of the pack, even without considering its low cost per page.”
