Nomination Title: Alan Mulally, President and CEO

Tell the story about what this nominee achieved since January 1 2011 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Early on, critics did not think an aerospace executive, who had successfully saved Boeing after the airline industry collapse after September 11, and auto industry outsider, could have an impact. Mulally has proven all the critics wrong and led the company to a new, and highly successful, One FORD around the world.

Mulally entered a company with a caustic culture, divisional infighting, and operational inefficiencies.

With a positive attitude and the One Ford Strategy, Mulally:

Brought all regional and global divisions back into one global company, achieving great operational efficiencies and economies of scale.

Tied executive incentives to the company’s overall performance to eliminate in-house competition, implementing a mandatory weekly business plan reviews in which executives had to report on their progress in the turnaround.

Reduced the number of product offerings from 97 to 20, while focusing on new technology and designs for fuel efficiency

He sold off unprofitable car lines, such as Jaguar and Land Rover Re-focused on the core brands, Ford and Lincoln

Introduced One Ford, same car worldwide, not multiple models, and parts, for multiple markets.

Ford’s first One Ford Global Model, the Focus, was introduced globally in 2011 and the Focus Electric is highly anticipated.

Ford redesigned its cars from the bottom up, implementing technologies like Ford SYNC and Ford My Touch and the EcoBoost engine for fuel efficiency.

Ford made major progress under the One Ford plan in 2011

The company launched new global vehicles, including the Focus and Ranger, and continued to expand its production facilities in global growth markets such as China, India and Russia. The company also launched 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine; and debuted all-new Escape

Two consecutive years of more than $8 billion in pre-tax profits . Third consecutive year of improved annual profits; strengthened balance sheet. Third consecutive year of higher U.S. market share and three-point share gain for Ford brand; higher share in Asia Pacific Africa; three quarters of sharegains in Europe. Significant profit contribution from Ford Credit

• Ford’s market share in 2011 was 16.5 percent in the U.S. and 8.3 percent in Europe

Going Forward

Continued implementation of the One Ford Strategy

• global introduction of the new Fusion and Lincoln MKZ

• New Global Band Slogan “ Go Further” announced in April 2012 to replace “Drive One”

• Continuing the global expansion of its fuel-efficient EcoBoost™engines. This includes North America, where the company is tripling the production capacity of EcoBoost equipped Ford vehicles.

• The company expects its full year market share in the U.S. and Europe to be about equal compared to 2011.

“We recognize we have challenges and opportunities ahead. We are excited about realizing the full potential of the global scale and operating margin benefits inherent in our One Ford plan. We also are excited about what leveraging our global assets ultimately will deliver for everyone associated with our business.” Said Alan Mulally at a 2011 Earning Report.
