Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 500 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date.

Energy Xtreme, a leading provider of mobile electric power solutions with idle reduction capability, is most recently a finalist for the 2011 Platts Energy Commercial Technology of the Year Award. The award focuses on practical applications of new technologies in the clean-energy sector. Energy Xtreme Independence Package® is also a finalist in Forbes Most Promising Companies in America and was presented with the 2011 NTEA Green Work Truck Award earlier this year. In addition, Energy Xtreme Independence Package® is a semifinalist in the 2011 Cleantech Open business competition. Being recognized by such highly renowned organizations is one thing, but the Independence Package® is also being recognized in very applicable real world applications.

Police Fleet Manager Magazine and Jane's Police Product Review have both done features on the efficiency of The Independence Package®, which is currently in use nationally including Dallas, Las Vegas, San Antonio International airport, and Fort Hood Army Police Departments.

The Independence Package®, is a group of complete power management systems, which allows for trouble-free operation of a vehicle’s full electrical system without engaging the vehicle's engine. This allows fleets to cut significant fuel and maintenance costs and minimize dependence on foreign oil while reducing emissions.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that one heavy-duty truck could save as much as 1,900 gallons of fuel each year simply by eliminating unnecessary idling. With how many trucks we have on the road today in the United States alone, it is unimaginable to think of the gallons of fuel we could save as a country. Idle reduction is an effective method of reducing harmful pollutants and has added benefits of lowering fuel consumption, saving money, cutting down on maintenance costs, and elongating engine life.

Although many people associate unnecessary idling with heavy-duty vehicles such as semi trucks, idling occurs in every sector of transportation, from freight trucks to passenger cars. At Energy Xtreme, we are creating idle-reduction solutions daily, and The Independence Package is our most recent innovation to help tackle the problem of unnecessary idling. In a recent case study of the Dallas Police Department using the system, the DPD saved more than 3.5 gallons (13.24 l) of petrol a day, saving more than $2,500 in fuel costs for each car using the system, annually.

The police department was also able to eliminate 97lbs (44 kg) a day of carbon dioxide emissions. This translates to an annual reduction of more than 30,000 lbs (13,636 kg) of carbon dioxide for every police cruiser. This is only the tip of the iceberg for Energy Xtreme. We look to improve upon our groundbreaking systems in an effort to become the leader in idle-reduction technologies.
