   1. Tell the story about what this nominated functional organization achieved in 2004 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Overview:  Although EMCOR is a Fortune 500 company with over $4.5 billion in
annual revenues (EMCOR Group, Inc.; NYSE:EME) and a leader in mechanical
and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a
diverse range of businesses globally (including 75% of the Fortune 500), it was
virtually unknown outside of the construction industry.  However, in one year/2004,
EMCOR has gone from obscurity to broadscale recognition across a large range of
industries/target clients-----specifically as a result of the extensive,
integrated and strategic marketing program created and managed by EMCOR's restaged Marketing Department.

Brief Company Description/Background: EMCOR gives life to new structures and
sustains life in existing ones by its planning, installing, operating and
maintaining the sophisticated and dynamic systems that create facility environments -- such as electrical, mechanical, lighting, air conditioning, heating, security and power generation systems -- in virtually every sector of the economy.  Even so,
EMCOR's role as a holding company resulted in only its 70 individual operating
companies having name recognition in their local markets e.g. the EMCOR
name/brand was not known by any of its target clients for its facilities services
business, nor was it a known entity that could be used to unite and unify its
myriad of 70 autonomous local operating companies/140 locations.

The Chairman and CEO, however, had a vision of creating a stronger Company
that involved using Marketing as a major Corporate strategy and key driver of the
business.  Accordingly, he recruited a new Head of Marketing and provided the
necessary senior management support to enable the total restaging and
redirection of the Marketing Department.

The Results:  EMCOR's Marketing Department is now:

World class and an established core compentency within the Company.
Creating new business (that is directly linked/attributable to the Marketing
initiatives) for the Company.
......And, as a result of this new business, has already paid-out its marketing-

heard about" to a company that has "taken its rightful place amongst the Fortune
500".

Responsible for creating and managing EMCOR's presence on TV, in major print
media, via its website, in brochures, landmark market research, database creation
and management, Pipeline management, direct mail campaigns, sales tool, a

Acting as its own agency for everything (in the conception, creation, design,
writing, etc. of all TV spots, print ads, Annual Report, brochures, etc.).
Uniting and synergizing a decentralized company as a result of its creation of
external and internal messaging, as well as its interaction with all 70 operating
companies, including the rebranding of all vehicles (+5,000) and the rebranding

operating companies, 3) keeper of the brand, as well as brand builder, and 4) key
Corporate strategist.  The Department is also comprised of just a handful of
individuals who 1) have, amongst themselves the skill sets required to perform,
accordingly, 2) the ability to work autonomously and take initiative, and 3) the
capacity to work cohesively and team play.
