Nomination Title: Delta Faucet Company's Monitor® 1800 Series Jetted Shower™ XO™

  1. Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 500 words), including its function, its features and benefits, and how it differs from competitive offerings. Include the date in 2002 on which the product/service was introduced to the U.S. market:

Recent anthropological research conducted by Delta Faucet Company shows that the main complaint from end-users concerning showers was the lack of water coverage. To address these needs, Delta launched the one-of-a-kind Monitor® 1800 Series Jetted Shower™ XO™ in November 2002, which provides consumers with two body jets, a showerhead and an eXtra Outlet (XO) for another showerhead, hand shower or jet module. A six-position diverter allows the end- user the option of running each of the three outlets independently or in any one of three paired combinations. Adjustable jet sprays also allow the user to control the direction and width of the spray for increased comfort.

The uniqueness of this shower system is that it requires no major renovation, uses less water and is a fraction of the cost of custom showers. Also, because consumers will use it everyday, it’s a functional alternative to typically under-used whirlpool baths. The Jetted Shower XO gives the user a more luxurious shower experience without additional upgrades to the plumbing system. Custom showers require ¾ inch plumbing and use on average, well over 10 gallons of water per minute (GPM). Installation involves major upgrades to the existing plumbing system and calls for larger or multiple heaters and larger drains. The cost of such a system along with the special installation charges makes this a large investment for homeowners.

On the other hand, the installation of the Jetted Shower XO is like that of any other shower-only valve as the jet module in the shower-only version is pre-plumbed to Delta’s Monitor® 1700 Series valve. The one-piece forged Monitor valve also increases durability and reduces the possibility of leaks behind the wall. The Jetted Shower XO retrofits to ½ inch plumbing and has thick- or thin-wall mounting capability for an easy fit into tile, granite and other thick materials, as well as thinner fiberglass enclosures. Designed to maximize the standard flow rate of water, the Jetted Shower XO uses just 3.5 GPM but feels like gallons more. It can also function with a standard drain and water heater. All this translates into less equipment to purchase, a lot less water used and reduced energy costs to heat the water.

To satisfy the various style preferences of consumers, the Jetted Shower XO is available in Delta’s popular Innovations® style to match contemporary décor, as well as the more traditional Victorian™ style. It comes in a variety of finish options including Chrome, Brilliance® Pearl Nickel and Brilliance® Polished Brass. The Victorian style also comes in Delta’s hot new hand-rubbed Venetian Bronze™.
