Nomination Title: Advancing the U.S. Army’s Logistics Vision

1. Tell the story about what this nominated team achieved since January 1 2009 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Background

As the application service provider for the Army Logistics Modernization
Program (LMP), CSC is bringing a 30-year-old mainframe- and COBOL-based
application into the 21st century by leveraging state-of-the art Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) tools and enterprise architecture. The period from
January 1, 2009 to present has proven to be an especially successful one of
achievements and milestones for CSC’s Information Technology (IT) Team and the
LMP program. CSC’s vast body of IT specialists, SAP experts, architects and web
developers compose the IT Team that is led by Sheri Thureen, vice president of
the CSC Defense Group.

Deployment to Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM)

In May 2009, the LMP Team effectively deployed the solution to more than 5,000
users at the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command,
Corpus Christi Army Depot, Letterkenny Army Depot and other Army and Department
of Defense organizations. As a result of the Team’s commitment to repeatable
and disciplined software engineering practices, they succeeded in executing
more than 11,000 test cases; delivering 442 solution enhancements; migrating 99
percent of more than 11.9 million data records and delivering more than 200,000
hours of LMP education and training. By implementing one of the world’s largest
integrated solutions, the IT Team assisted in spearheading the Army’s IT
logistics vision and long overdue convergence from legacy applications to a
modernized solution that is interoperable with the Army’s Enterprise
Infrastructure Environment.

SAP Upgrade

The LMP upgraded to SAP ERP 6.0 in October 2009 to optimize the Army's ability
to integrate with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions. Spearheaded by
the IT Team and its SAP experts, the upgrade took advantage of finance
functionality and performance management improvements. To enable success, the
IT team upgraded several times to SAP ERP 6.0 in development environments prior
to the live upgrade. Additionally, the team closely studied the upgrade efforts
of other Department of Defense, federal and commercial organizations. During a
pre-upgrade assessment, the team focused on ways to improve the sustainability
of the LMP system to meet regulatory requirements and eliminate functionality
related challenges. As an upgrade approach, the team embraced separate upgrade
landscapes for development, quality assurance and testing, which allowed
parallel execution of upgrade and non-upgrade related activities and mitigated
schedule and performance risks.
