Nomination Title: Aternity for Mobile

Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date:

Mobile is not only the new face of engagement — it is fast becoming widely embraced as the focal point for business communications. For IT and line-of-business stakeholders, mobile represents a completely new paradigm. And, with business users embracing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), IT departments are quickly losing control of managing the end user experience of business applications. Yet, these teams are still required to ensure optimal end user experience to support the success of their company’s mobile strategy.

In April 2012, Aternity made generally available the Application Performance Management (APM) industry’s first mobile end user experience management solution. Aternity for Mobile was developed in response to growing customer and partner demand to expand visibility into how end users are experiencing the critical business applications they use on a daily basis (outside of physical and virtual desktops).

From a technology innovation perspective, Aternity for Mobile provides the industry’s fastest instrumentation of native mobile applications, which includes comprehensive capabilities for monitoring mobile device, network and service metrics. Proactive detection of performance issues – by learning and analyzing behavior in real-time – empowers IT teams to determine mobile application performance root cause with the same platform on which they already rely for physical and virtual desktop management.

When Aternity launched its mobile capabilities for end user experience management, analyst firm Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) praised the expanded technology focus, saying, “The fact that Aternity is extending visibility to mobile devices is equally significant since both mobile performance and remote management have been identified by mobile support groups as among their top four mobile management challenges.” (Source: EMA, Aternity Expands User Experience, April 2012 – also included as an asset in this nomination). Additionally, Aternity’s customer base, including companies such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), praised the entry into enterprise mobility with Robert Tobias, project manager at the IMF saying, "We recognize the need our employees have for anywhere, anytime access to critical business applications. …Aternity is a vital component of our application performance management and monitoring strategy and will help ensure our ability to provide our mobile users with an optimal end user experience."

Most recently, in March 2013, Aternity announced that Aternity for Mobile will be extended with next-generation mobile application performance management capabilities that will further empower IT teams with the mobile end user experience visibility they need to accelerate performance.

Aternity for Mobile’s second-generation capabilities will provide “stand-alone” functionality focused on addressing enterprise mobility and BYOD challenges irrespective of the applications being used:

•Device and application resource monitoring including storage, running processes, CPU, memory, and battery-enabling identification of device influencing attributes that impact application performance
•Wi-Fi and cellular network monitoring for identifying enterprise and other work locations where network coverage impacts quality of application service
•Corporate network connection quality monitoring for core services, such as Exchange and VPN, ensuring continuous, high-quality service for mission-critical applications
•Web application monitoring of corporate-hosted, browser-based and hybrid applications, correlated with device, network and corporate connectivity metrics, ensuring a complete view of end user experience
•Application crash and system-wide error reporting, including stack trace, empowering IT and application developers with rapid identification of root cause.
