The financial crisis that started in 2008 caused some of the greatest loss in U.S. investors’ lifetimes. Funds earmarked for retirement were quickly depleted and owners of those funds were unable to withstand the emotional toll of “riding it out.” For many, this meant breaking the cardinal rule of investing by selling low and getting of the market entirely with what little they had left. Couple this downturn with the ongoing scandals around money laundering, rogue trading, rate manipulation, and industry trading - many investors lost respect and faith in the financial services industry as a whole.

The downturn inspired, investment advisor, Jason Jenkins, to embark on a mission that would change the financial landscape forever - he was going to create an environment for investors to succeed. He wanted to give investors a tool that would enable them to remain emotionally strong throughout the investment process by providing them with the protection, transparency and communication they deserved. If he succeeded, the respect and trust that was lost would soon be regained. His solution: AssetLock™.

AssetLock™ is a proprietary tracking software that provides investors with downside protection by advancing communication and transparency between the investor, financial advisor and money manager. The software monitors the investor’s individual account performance daily. It works to protect an investor’s gains by employing an exit strategy for the entire portfolio based on the investor’s unique risk profile. It also provides the investor with 24/7 online access to his or her personalized account platform, and real-time account notifications when specific account benchmarks have been reached.

First, the investor selects a portfolio based on his or her risk profile. Next, AssetLock™ calculates the investor’s AssetLock™ Value and begins monitoring the portfolio’s performance. The AssetLock™ Value is based on the high water value of the portfolio, meaning it is always based (and recalculated) on the highest value the portfolio has ever reached and this Value increases as the portfolio increases, working to protect the investor’s original investment and realized gains.

If the portfolio experiences loss to the point of reaching the AssetLock™ Value, the investor’s entire portfolio is removed from the market and monies are placed in a short-term bond position until re-entry is determined.

AssetLock™ helps investors remain emotionally strong by giving them a way to invest with “safety net.” This protection element works to ensure their loss does not exceed their risk threshold.

AssetLock™ advances transparency and trust by giving investors secured online access and vetted AssetLock™ Advisors. Assets are liquid and held in reputable 3rd party custodians.

AssetLock™ furthers communication by creating the framework for realistic expectations about the relationship between risk and return and a complete understanding of the investor’s investment objectives. The investor, financial advisor, and portfolio manager, know exactly what the investor’s risk threshold is, the maximum amount of downside the investor is willing to accept, and at what point the investor’s account will be removed from the market. The investor will always know how much money they have, how much money they’ve earned, and what their advisor and portfolio manager are doing to protect it.

There is nothing like AssetLock™ in the marketplace, it is truly a first-of-its-kind business. In just nine months the company went from nothing to monitoring more than $500 million in assets, protecting 2,610 households, servicing 4,221 accounts and enlisting 192 AssetLock™ Advisors nationwide. The company is on track to monitor $1 billion by year’s end.

AssetLock™ deserves the ‘Startup of the Year’ recognition because it has innovated an industry that so desperately needed to regain the trust and confidence of consumers. It’s not a matter of IF a market correction will happen; it’s a matter of WHEN. AssetLock™ was designed and will continue to protect individuals and families from suffering through another financial crisis.
